Converse County Sheriff’s have released a statement about an incident that took place on I-25 Sunday, February 10th.
On February 10th, 2019, at about 1730 hours, a Deputy was dispatched to find an intoxicated driver who
was reported as suicidal and homicidal. The white Cadillac Eldorado was located near mile marker 150
on I-25. The deputy observed erratic and unsafe driving and attempted to stop the driver near mile
marker 140. The driver failed to yield and continued down the 140 off-ramp and circled around onto
Cold Springs Road. The driver continued on Cold Springs Road to Wy-96 at speeds up to 70MPH. When
the driver reached the 146 I-25 interchanges, the driver headed north on I-25. The driver continued to
drive erratically and at speeds to 85MPH.
Spike strips were successfully deployed near mile marker 159, deflating all four tires of the vehicle. The
driver pulled to the left and stopped and exited his vehicle. The driver failed to comply with repeated
orders from the Deputy and a Taser was used to gain his compliance. The driver was taken into custody
and transported by the deputy to Memorial Hospital of Converse County for medical clearance. After
being cleared the driver was transported to the Converse County Jail where he was booked on the
charges of eluding, driving under the influence, and having an open alcoholic container in a moving
vehicle.
