On July 19, 2024, a significant outage occurred due to a faulty update released by CrowdStrike. This incident impacted around 8.5 million Windows devices globally, disrupting services across various sectors, including airlines and financial institutions. The outage caused widespread cancellations of flights, delays, and affected systems like Office 365 and other cloud services. The financial losses for affected companies were substantial, though CrowdStrike’s liability was limited by their service terms. The issue arose from a content update for the CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor.
