(Lander, WY) – Michael Vigil, who was charged with second-degree murder in relation to the April 2024 death of Warren Jorgenson, withdrew his original “not guilty by reason of mental illness” plea at his change of plea hearing held today, April 29, and has now changed his plea to “guilty.”
The hearing was overseen by the Honorable Judge Jason Conder, with Micah Wyatt acting as prosecution and Ryan Semerad as Defense.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled to take place on July 7.
Following the original “not guilty by reason of mental illness” plea, a plea agreement was later filed on Vigil’s behalf on April 7.
The agreement stipulated that upon the change to a “guilty” plea, “the Defendant shall be sentenced to serve not less than 25 nor more than 50 years in the custody of the Wyoming Department of Corrections.”
A murder in the second-degree felony charge holds a maximum sentence of life imprisonment (no less than 20 years).
The plea agreement also states that Vigil will need to pay restitution and that “bond shall be continued pending sentencing.”
Vigil remains detained at this time.
