(Rock Springs, WY) – Thunder Basin found a way to get the better of the Riverton boys varsity basketball team in Game 3 of the Flaming Gorge Tournament early Saturday morning. The Wolverines kept the game within arms reach throughout, but fell 46-43.

The game’s 8 AM start in Rock Springs came early after RHS’ Parker Paxton won the tournament three-point contest following his team’s second win on Friday night.
The Wolverines trailed by as much as six early, but cut the lead to a bucket with help from Parker Paxton’s eight first half points.
Thunder Basin brought a 23-17 lead into the halftime break, and both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter.
Riverton was unable to convert possessions into points down the stretch, but kept it close. Dre Monroe tallied a steal and score with 2.6 seconds remaining, closing the deficit to three. But the Wolverines simply ran out of time, and the Bolts were able to close out a contest they led most of the way.
Unofficially, RHS was led in scoring by Parker Paxton with 12 points and Ty Sheets with 10.
Thunder Basin’s Josh Klassen led all scorers with 23 points.
Riverton finished the Flaming Gorge Tournament 2-1 (4-3 overall).
