‘We’re going to take care of this’: Recalibration Committee to discuss student activities funding, other topics during two-day meeting in Lander

(Lander, WY) – The Wyoming Legislature’s Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration will meet Wednesday and Thursday in the Board Room at Fremont County School District 1, 863 Sweetwater Street in Lander.

The agenda for Wednesday begins at 8:30 a.m. with a review of recalibration. 

Wyoming Sen. Tim Salazar, R-Riverton, addressed that topic briefly during a meeting of the Select Committee on Tribal Relations last week in Riverton, noting that, throughout the summer, lawmakers are planning to “deal with additional issues on recalibration.”

“Recalibration is not over,” Salazar said. “We’re talking about food services, safety officers, one-to-one computer funding – so we’re not at all finished yet.”

The Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration is specifically planning to discuss issues related to student activities funding, he added, and “I am confident that we have found a solution to take care of that problem, and to take care of schools who are having that problem.”

“We’re going to take care of this,” he said.

Wednesday’s committee meeting will continue with a discussion about school safety personnel.

After lunch, the committee will discuss school nutrition programs before recessing for the day. 

The agenda for Thursday begins at 8 a.m. with a discussion about technology, which will continue through lunch, after which the committee will discuss student activities.

Both days of meetings are open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the Legislature’s YouTube channel.
