CASPER, WY – APRIL, 2026 – Before the Internet! Before television! The small orchestras of radio shows and vaudeville stages performed music from the golden days of steamer trunks, wicker chairs, potted palms, and all-night soirees. Lander Performing Arts will honor America’s 250th birthday with a concert by Portable Masterpieces, a salon orchestra of 9 musicians from Casper, WY on Thursday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lander. The ensemble has toured vintage opera houses and theaters across the western United States and will perform a selection of American music from Bix Beiderbecke to Irving Berlin, and Woody Guthrie to Zez Confrey with some expected patriotic favorites.
Bring your family and friends to the concert for an evening of ragtime, light classical music and snappy radio tunes. The program is supported through the generosity of local patrons in the community, an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and a grant the Wyoming Arts Council helping underwrite a tour of communities in western Wyoming. “Celebrate America!” is part of the America250 project established by the federal government to recognize and celebrate the music, musicians, and composers of America. “Portable Masterpieces is delighted to be presenting this program to Wyoming audiences,” said Steven Trinkle, co-founder and trumpeter with the ensemble.
“Touring the state and performing concerts connects us as communities and tells the great stories of our American heritage.” This performance is free and open to the public without charge.
ABOUT STEVEN TRINKLE
Steven Trinkle (MM Ithaca College) has held principal trumpet positions with orchestras in the United States and abroad including Casper, Augusta, Dubuque, Shreveport, the Orquesta Sinfonica de Maracaibo (Venezuela), and the Orchestra Sinfonica della Radiotelevisione in Turin, Italy in addition to performing with the Houston Symphony and the Kansas City Philharmonic. A founding member of the Chestnut Brass Company and artistic director of Trinkle Brass Works, Trinkle was elected to honorary membership in the Associaçao dos Trompetistias do Brasil for this work with trumpeters in Brazil. Under his direction, his ensembles have performed in Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and throughout the United States.
