1:45 p.m. update: Interstate 80 is now reopen.
According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation website, wyoroad.info, a large portion of Wyoming’s Interstate 80 is shut down due to winter travel and crashes.
As of 10:30 a.m. sections between Rock Springs and Laramie are closed. WYDOT does not currently have a timetable as to reopening.
WY 789 between Rawlins and Muddy Gap as well as Baggs to Creston Junction are also closed due to winter conditions.
Travelers can check road conditions and web cams at wyoroad.info. WYDOT’s Cody Beers tells County 10, “webcams are generally placed in areas where we have communications, such as cell phone service, and not in areas where weather conditions are as bad. This is similar to where we placed road-closed gates, not in the eye of the storm, but in locations where it safer to wait or to turn around and drive back to the nearest town or shelter. The web cameras aren’t always accurate, so we ask people to use the wyoroad.info words which are reported by snow plow drivers, themselves.”
