(Riverton, WY) – Riverton High School soccer teams both finished in third place at the 4A West regional tournament in Green River last weekend and have qualified for the state tournament.
The RHS boys went 7-8-2 overall this season. At regionals, they blanked Green River 1-0, fell to Jackson in the semi-finals 6-0 and bounced back to beat Rock Springs 3-2 to clinch the bronze medal.
Riverton opens state from Gillette Thursday, facing the Cheyenne Central Indians at 4:00 p.m. from Campbell County High School. The Wolverines are either looking at a 4:00 p.m. semi-final game versus Jackson or Thunder Basin Friday or a consolation game at 11:00 a.m.
The Riverton ladies went 11-5-1 overall this year. At regionals in Green River they’d blank Rock Springs 1-0, fall to Jackson in a heart-breaker 3-2, and shutout Kelly Walsh 1-0 to capture third place.
The Lady Wolverines start play from state at 2:00 p.m. Thursday against the east’s second seeded Laramie Plainsmen. That game will be at Campbell County High School. If Riverton wins, they’ve got a 2:00 p.m. semi-final contest against either Jackson or Campbell County. The losers of those games meet in consolation play at 9:00 a.m. Friday from Thunder Basin High School.
