(Green River, WY) – Last weekend, the Riverton High School girls and boys wrestling teams shared quite a bit of success at the annual Thoman Duals event hosted by Green River High School.
The two-day battle saw 14 different schools attend, including teams from Colorado and Utah. The Riverton boys squad went 2-1 Friday in pool play and 2-0 Saturday in the “Silver bracket.” The impressive performance ultimately saw them win the bracket overall. The RHS girls combined with Rock Springs to compete as a team together. The joint effort worked nicely as the two teams won the overall tournament against six other ladies teams.
Individually Riverton’s Weston McLaughlin went undefeated and was selected for “Best of the Best” recognition in the 175lb class. Hailee Cooper won the “Best of the Best” for girls 100lb, and Aleah Marquez was second overall after a tough championship match.
In addition to the winning successes, Riverton’s Autumn Osborne was picked for the Thoman Spirit Award after exhibiting fantastic sportsmanship. Head Coach Bobby Thoman announced via social media that he felt Ayden Sanchez earned his “Wrestler of the Week” designation. “He showed up to wrestle and gave it his all,” Thoman said. “He has really grown in confidence, and it showed on the mat. Hopeful to see him on the podium at State in his senior year.”

Wolverine wrestlers now have the chance to stay in Fremont County the next couple weekends with a trip to the Lander Invite Friday and Saturday. After that, the focus will be on the massive Ron Thon Memorial Tournament January 29-31.
