The wind, isn’t it always the wind in springtime, Wyoming? Whether it’s baseball, golf, track and field, and especially soccer, the wind is always a consideration. As the Riverton girls game ended with Star Valley the wind was picking up. Just 15 minutes later, when the Wolverines took the field against the Braves, it was a steady 15 miles per hour out of the north, with gusts substantially higher.
Riverton had the wind at their backs in the opening half, yet Star Valley managed to score the first goal of the game at 13 minutes on an angle kick by sophomore Jacob Howe.
It was the spark the Wolverines needed.
Just three minutes later, Riverton sophomore Aaron Hutchison glanced the tying goal off the left standard followed by another goal, this time from senior Hunter Saltsgaver.
Riverton led 2-1 and held it for the remainder of the blustery opening half.
In the second half, with just 15 minutes left in the game, Riverton built the lead to 3-1 on a goal by sophomore Asher Kintzler.
Despite the wind advantage in the second half, the Braves couldn’t score.
