It was a warmup for the Wolverines in a 79-degree pool Thursday at the Riverton Aquatic Center. The Riverton boys handled the Evanston Red Devils 163-130 before heading to Casper on Friday and Saturday to swim at Kelly Walsh and Natrona County.
“It was a good dual against an evenly matched opponent. We knew it was gonna be a competition. And I told the boys that the team that can step up and perform on all four of their events would be the team that would come out on top. This dual meet with the diving event lasted just a little over an hour,” Riverton head coach Jay Dayton said. “Swimmers were swimming back-to-back events not even dried off, and they were jumping into the next relay or event. Our team responded very well. We were given great competition from Evanston.”
The Wolverines swept the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1-2-3 finish by Brody Koch, Jasper Beutler, and Jared DeClecq.
Riverton won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.85 with Alex Jordan, Brady Koch, Porter Olson and Teter Hovander swimming legs.
Koch and Jordan each won a pair of events.
“Evanston is a great team and they’ve got some of the top seeds in relay times in the state. It was nice to see some 4-A competition,” Dayton said. “I thought we started off the right way with that. Friday and Saturday we will be in Kelly Walsh and Natrona where we will see multiple 4-A teams. We are looking forward to that, to see how we match up. We, the coaches, were very proud of our boys. They had early morning swim practice that day also.”
Freshman Calum Tate qualified for the state meet in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:21.22
