The Riverton boys swam to gold on consecutive days in two different pools over the weekend in Park County. Friday, they ran away from the field at Cody, taking the Bronc Invite with 385 points, outdistancing second-place Cody by 119 points.
On Saturday, just a few miles away in Powell, the team won the Gene Dozah invite with 317 points, besting Class 3-A Buffalo by eight.
“It was a great outing in Park County this weekend. We came out on top Friday and Saturday,” Riverton head coach Jay Dayton said. “Saturday, we overcame runner-up to Lander at state every year Buffalo. We swam really well and had a super team effort. Everyone contributed.”
The regular season portion of swimming is all about meeting the state qualifying marks, and the Wolverines continued to add boys to the state finals.
“Several swimmers picked up more state qualifications. Jared Declerq got the hundred breast on Friday. Jordan Mills got the 500 freestyle on Friday. And as expected Alex Jordan, Brody Koch, Teter Hovander added more to their state portfolio,” Dayton said. “Alex Jordan finished first in all of his events Friday and Saturday and was a big component of top finishing relays. Alex and Brody Koch on Saturday went first and second in the 200 IM posting great times. We have multiple kids on the bubble, very close to qualifying and we’re seeing great things out of them. We expect them to hit the mark in the next couple weeks.”
