Consolation Championship games often end in lopsided scores, depending on how hard a team had to play to reach the Saturday trophy game after an elimination round on Friday. Shoshoni had a donnybrook on Friday afternoon with Sundance, going into two overtime periods before taking a hard-fought one-point win.
Saturday against Wright, they couldn’t find the target. The Wranglers were ineffective offensively, possibly the worst shooting performance of the season. They shot just 18% from the floor in the first half, and only 15% from the 3-point line.
Jordan Gilbertson led the team with a dozen points on four 3-pointers, but he attempted 12, Caden Kisling had 10 and was the only Wrangler who shot above 40% on the game. Oakley Hicks scored 10 but hit only 17% from the floor.
It was a frustrating ending to an outstanding season by the Wranglers.
Wright is a big team led by 6-5 Mitchell Strohschein and 6-3 leaper Joseph Kimbrell. They took the ball hard to the low block, finishing with 19 and 13 points respectively.
There were only two lead changes, both in the early minutes, and Wright held a 26-point advantage in the third period before the Wranglers battled back.
The future is bright for Shoshoni basketball as they lose just two starters in Hicks and Carson Kisling. They lost a third senior, Andrew Garcia, to injury three weeks ago.
They return their leading scorer in Caden Kisling and their top outside shooter in Gilbertson, along with Cameron Eder. Kasen McConnaughy and Garrett Thrasher both saw a lot of varsity action in the second half of the season.
