(Wright, WY) – It was a good start to the season for the Shoshoni Wranglers at Wright last Saturday. In a game situation, with live plays on everything except kick-offs, Shoshoni handled Wright 23-0.
The Zero Week game had a lot of positives for head coach Tony Truempler.
“It went well,” Truempler said. “We started a little sluggish, but we figured it out.
The Wranglers had a balanced attack, scoring through the air on a gadget play and twice on the ground.
“We struggled up the middle running the ball. Outside we played fine,” Truempler said. “The first half we struggled to pick up blocks.”
Shoshoni scored first on a safety when the Wright center sent the ball flying out of the back of the end zone on a punt.
Carson Kisling tallied the second score with Colby Brinks adding the conversion kick for a 9-0 lead.
A little razzle-dazzle ensued on the Wrangler’s next score when Oakley Hicks connected with Cameron Eder for a flanker-reverse pass.
The final touchdown came on a Cade Kisling run.
Brinks converted on all three conversion kicks.
The Wranglers load the bus at 9am on Thursday for a 300-mile one-way run to defending state 9-man champion Pine Bluffs.
“If we play, we can play with them. We’ll get tired, they’ll platoon us like they always do,” Truempler said. “Pine Bluffs is good. Our line blocking is key for us.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
