The National Family Caregiver Support Program is a wonderful program as it helps those caring for others to have an opportunity to take a moment for themselves so they can continue the amazing job they currently are doing for their loved one.
Who is a caregiver? Caregivers can be anyone. They could be a parent of young children and helping their parents or in-laws, while still working a full-time job; they may have had to take an early retirement to take care of their spouse who is ill; they may be elderly themselves and caring for a child who has been diagnosed with early onset dementia; a neighbor caring for their friend because their friend has no family around to do it; or a grandchild who is helping their grandparent. They could be helping clean the house, pay the bills, or do the shopping for this person. They could be providing 24-hour care for this person, cleaning, bathing, cooking, and taking this person to all their medical appointments, or it could be combination of all of the above.
Anyone 18 and older who help another person 60+ years old, or living with a neurological disorder such as dementia, with their daily living skills. The National Family Caregiver Support Program is a social program designed to help those caring for others to have a moment to take for themselves. We can provide the following services to caregivers and their loved ones.
Information and Coordination – We can help a caregiver by providing information and answer questions about their situation as well as help coordinate services for them including helping them connect with other services that might be useful to them, such as home health.
Support Group – Soup & Support is a joint effort with Frontier Home Health & Hospice. This is a Support Group for Caregivers of those 60+ or with dementia. This group meets the 1st Thursday of the month at Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc. at 11:00am. A light lunch is provided for the caregiver. This time allows for the caregiver to connect with others who are going through similar adventures. This safe space allows for questions, ideas and connection with others.
Respite – This allows for a worker to stay with your loved one while you go shopping, get your hair done, go to your doctor’s appointment, read a book, etc. This is a scheduled weekly time so that you know that you have time for you.
Homemaking – This service is perfect for the adult child caring for their parent or in-law or spouse taking care of their spouse. Let us help with the light housekeeping chores including vacuuming, laundry, shopping and changing the bed linens.
Caregivers provide an important role in our family and community helping keep individuals independent and in their homes for as long as possible. Caregiving should be a team based approach and we at the WSCI National Family Caregiver Support Program are honored to be a part of that team.
This program is a voluntary contribution paid program.
