Data shows that in 2018 Wyoming coal mines lost 137 employees amid the declining demand for the fuel.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration said that coal mines in the state produced 304 million tons of coal in 2018, that’s down about 12 million tons from 2017.
In 2017, a Wyoming state report shows that coal mines added 5 full-time jobs after losing nearly 1,000 workers in 2015.
According to the United States Energy Information Administration, over half of the United States coal mines have closed since 2008.
