(Cheyenne, WY) – The Wyoming Department of Education has released results for the 2024-25 Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress (WY-TOPP) and Wyoming Alternate Assessment (WY-ALT).
Three-year rate trends for proficient or advanced scores on the WY-TOPP and WY-ALT assessments can be viewed by district and student grouping here.
WY-TOPP is Wyoming’s state assessment, which tests students on the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards, while WY-ALT, for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, is aligned to the Wyoming Extended Standards.
Students in grades 3-10 take the WY-TOPP and WY-ALT assessment for math and English Language Arts (ELA).
Grades 5, 7, and 9 students are also assessed in writing on WY-TOPP, and students in grades 4, 8, and 10 are assessed in science on both tests.
Statewide for 2024-25, performance in all three tested content areas increased by 1-3 percent over last year, with ELA and science reaching at or above pre-pandemic levels, according to the WDE.
“One year ago, I said that we had much work to do,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder said. “This year’s results certainly reflect reforms and the significant efforts our educators have made across the state. …
“Wyoming doesn’t settle for good enough – we continue to rise.”
ACT
The WDE also released average ACT test results for 2024-25 last week.
For Fremont County, the data shows that Lander’s 11th-graders tested highest on the ACT in 2024-25, with an average composite score of 19.4 (131 tested), followed by Dubois at 18.9 (18 tested), Shoshoni at 18.2 (30 tested), Riverton at 17.9 (165 tested), Pavillion at 17.2 (28 tested), Fort Washakie at 13.7 (17 tested), Arapahoe at 13.3 (15 tested), and Wyoming Indian at 13.1 (37 tested).
The statewide average composite ACT score for 2024-25 was 18.7 (6,289 tested).
