(Riverton, WY) – The Wyoming Historical Society (WHS) is proud to announce it has been gifted the Wind River Heritage Center in Riverton, WY, marking a transformative milestone in the Society’s 73-year history. Effective immediately, the facility will be rebranded as the Korell Center for Wyoming Heritage, serving as the official museum and cultural center of the Wyoming Historical Society.
Under the new tagline, “Where Wyoming’s Wild and Human Histories Meet,” the Center will bridge the gap between Wyoming’s rugged natural legacy and its rich human narrative. This acquisition represents the first physical flagship for the Society, providing a permanent space for the local Riverton community and citizens across the state to engage with the stories that define the Cowboy State.
“The WHS Executive Board is incredibly thankful for this monumental gift,” said the Wyoming Historical Society’s Executive Director Alexandra Philp. “We recognize the decades of passion and stewardship that the Korell family and the Wind River community poured into this collection. We are honored to take the baton, ensuring this historical legacy is not only preserved but elevated to a state-of-the-art cultural hub for all generations.”

The establishment of the Korell Center is an integral step in the WHS mission: to preserve, explore, and share Wyoming’s history for the benefit and enjoyment of all generations. As a centralized entity, the WHS views this center as a vital anchor for its long-term growth, ensuring the Society remains a living, breathing resource for the state’s future.
The timing of this gift is uniquely appropriate as the nation approaches America250. As the United States prepares to celebrate its semiquincentennial, the Korell Center will serve as Wyoming’s premier stage to showcase how the frontier spirit and the natural world have shaped the American character.

The Korell Center is currently undergoing a phased renovation to modernize displays and enhance visitor flow. A grand opening is scheduled for Summer 2026, with a soft launch of the main gallery and event space anticipated by mid-May.
