(Washington D.C.) – Two United States National Guard soldiers remain in critical condition Thursday morning after they were shot Wednesday afternoon in Washington D.C.
Jeanine Pirro, Federal Prosecutor, identified 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom and 24-year-old Andrew Wolf as the two West Virginia natives who were struck by gunfire. The shooting took place at 2:15 p.m. near the Farragut West Metro Station, which is less than half a mile from the White House. Both the White House and United States Capitol building were placed on a brief lockdown after the shooting took place.
Pirro told reporters that Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national, allegedly drove across the country from Washington state to target the guard members with a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver. Other National Guard soldiers were able to detain Lakanwal after he was shot once.
Several leaders from Wyoming have offered comments publicly reacting to the tragedy.
