(Cheyenne, WY) – Look out Joey Chestnut, this trio of Wyoming law enforcement officers devoured 18 Chicago-style hot dogs in just 7 minutes and 42 seconds during Cheyenne’s annual 4th of July festivities this year.
In its second year, the “Battle of the Buns: Hometown Hero Hot Dog Eating Contest” was held this weekend and for a second consecutive time, Cheyenne Police Department Officers Gaoa, Rodriguez, and Wingeleth mustard up the stomach strength to defend their crown.
The event coincides with Cheyenne’s annual Firecracker 5K/10K run and serves as a fundraising event for a local food bank, Needs Inc.
The international Nathan’s hot dog eating championship takes place each year on the 4th of July at Coney Island. In 2025, the USA’s Joey Chestnut recaptured his title by eating 70.5 dogs in just 10 minutes.
While Wyoming’s championship couldn’t “ketchup” to those kind of numbers, to be frank the task is a bit more demanding per dog. A Chicago-style dog is traditionally topped with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, a pickle, peppers and celery salt. Whereas the Brooklyn contest does not require eating additional toppings.
