(Riverton, WY) – Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray defended Wyoming’s recent election integrity measures during a public discussion at the Riverton branch of the Fremont County Library on Thursday night.
As of July 1, 2025, Wyoming requires individuals registering to vote to provide proof of both U.S. citizenship and Wyoming residency.
“I’m very comfortable with what I believe in, and I stand strong for those beliefs that I think are in line with the majority of Wyomingites,” Gray said. “You look at the policies that we’ve put forward over the past four years, and before that, the six years I served in the state legislature, these policies have over 90% support from Americans.”
Gray pushed back against claims that changes to Wyoming’s voter ID laws might unfairly impact specific groups, including Native Americans and women who’ve changed their names through marriage or divorce.
Gray also took aim at what he called the “troika” working against conservative policies in Wyoming: “the legacy media, the Democrats and the insider big money that exerts a lot of control down in Cheyenne, exerts a lot of control in our state and is totally out of touch with the policies that the people of Wyoming want.”
Gray further dismissed claims of partisanship in his office.
“It’s pretty basic,” Gray said in reference to existing election law. “It’s been in there for over 50 years. And the media consternation at this statute has been very interesting to watch. We’re enforcing the law.”
His comments came as Gray’s office faces legal challenges to the new voter registration requirements.
Thursday’s forums in Riverton and Lander were hosted by the League of Women Voters of Fremont County.
