(Laramie, WY) – The University of Wyoming released the following statement Tuesday afternoon regarding their scheduled match-up versus San Jose State University;
“After a lengthy discussion, the University of Wyoming will not play its scheduled conference match against San José State University in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday, Oct. 5. Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Wyoming. The Cowgirls will host Fresno State on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.”
While the cancellation was not elaborated on by the University of Wyoming, this is the third school to cancel games this season with the Spartans. Both Boise State and Southern Utah University cancelled their scheduled games earlier this season, also not listing an official reason for the decisions. Speculation from many involved however indicate that the cancellations are in protest to a transgender player on the San Jose State roster.
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon announced his support of the decision via X Tuesday.
Wyoming volleyball will travel to rivals Colorado State Tuesday, October 8th after their Fresno State contest on the 3rd.
