(Fremon County, WY) – High winds in the Fremont County area led to extreme blow-over risk advisories and road closures on Sunday, March 16, and according to the WYDOT District 5 Facebook page, even some vehicles that ended up in a ditch on WY 28 late this afternoon.
“… Strong winds 97mph, heavy slush, blowing snow. Cars in the ditch,” a message from the WYODT Maintenance foreman informed.
The National Weather Service in Riverton (NWSR) shared that a gust of 107 mph was recorded in the Red Canyon area of South Pass, which, as of 7:20 PM, remains closed to all travel.
The NWSR also advises that strong winds will continue overnight through Monday morning, with “additional areas of concern” being across the Lander Foothills, which will see gusts pushing 60 mph over the next couple of hours.
