(Riverton, WY) – The 2025 theme for the Special Olympics Jackalope Jump fundraisers across the state was “Camo for a Cause,” but there was no hiding the support from the community for this year’s jump in Riverton, where close to a hundred attendees/jumpers were once again “Freezin’ for a Reason.”
There were 48 jumpers in total this year, who raised a whopping $12,063.06.
Special Olympics Riverton local coordinator Lori Sanders explained that the money raised will go toward training over 70 Fremont County athletes and Unified Partners across eight sports, and will help pay for sports equipment, hotels for traveling, and any other costs that arise with training that number of athletes.
“Special Olympics Riverton is unique in that we train athletes from not only Riverton but Pavillion, Lander, and the Wind River Reservation,” Sanders added. “Our youngest 2025 athlete is 8 years old, and our oldest is 73.”
Highlights from this year’s Riverton jump included Team Pooh, which won best costume; the Hi Mountain Crew, the team that raised the most money at $1,173; Lewis Fancher, the athlete who raised the most money at $2,110; Team Ohana, who had the largest group; and Teresa McGinis, who raised the most money as an individual at $2,400.
“We want to thank the Riverton fire district for filling the pool and City Hall for allowing us to host our jump in the parking lot, and for providing the tables, chairs, garbage cans, and bathrooms,” Sanders shared.
“We would also like to thank the three local day programs, Community Entry Services, Simply Supports, and the Pinnacle Day program, along with all of the various independent providers that volunteer and provide travel arrangements and support for each and every athlete. We would also like to thank all of our coaches across all our sports; without their dedication to our teams, we wouldn’t be able to do this. Lastly, we would like to thank the community for showing up and supporting our athletes!”
