All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Adelia Jenkins, 31, of Fremont County, is facing one count arson in the third degree and one count interference with peace officer.
Charges are related to an event that took place on August 11th, 2019 in Riverton. Jenkins waived her preliminary hearing on August 21st, 2019. This case is being transferred to District Court.

Court documents describe Jenkins starting a fire inside of her cell at the Riverton Police Department. The responding officer “observed a sizeable fire on the mat located on the floor.” Jenkins allegedly refused the officer’s request to vacate the cell and had to be “forcefully removed from the cell for her own safety.” The officer extinguished the fire with a blanket.
It is reported Jenkins would not comply with a secondary search. Jenkins allegedly tried to “twist away from his [the officer’s] grasp” when he attempted to forcefully place her hands behind her back. Court documents state “Jenkins was taken to the ground and searched.” Jenkins was secured in a new cell and a third search was conducted. During the third search, “a small yellow lighter” was found.
Video footage was reviewed by RPD and it reportedly showed Jenkins “repeatedly attempt to light the mattress on fire.” Jenkins allegedly lit a toilet paper roll on fire and then placed it on the mat. Blankets were also added to the fire.
Jenkins is being charged with:
- One count arson in the third degree (felony) with a maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 5 years, a fine of no more than $5,000 or both.
- One count interference with a peace officer (misdemeanor) with a maximum penalty of imprisonment for no more than 1 year, a fine of no more than $1,000 or both.
