(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, June 24, will be partly sunny, but we can expect widely scattered afternoon thunderstorms as a shortwave trough tracks west to east across the area.
An east-northeasterly low-level upslope flow will draw in ample moisture, so some of these thunderstorms will produce locally heavy rainfall. Also, a few of these thunderstorms will produce small hail along with wind gusts of up to 60 mph, but there is the possibility of large hail, especially in eastern Fremont County, including Jeffrey City and Moneta, primarily areas east of Riverton. Lipson added that we could see some frequent lightning with these storms. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s, with a prevailing northeast wind at 10-20 mph.
Tonight’s showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous, some with heavy rain, small hail, and wind gusts of up to 40-50 mph. The prevailing wind will be out of the northeast at 15-25 mph. Lows will be in the mid-50s.
For tomorrow, Thursday, Lipson says numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly in the early afternoon, as another shortwave trough traverses the area and that low-level northeasterly moisture feed continues. Storms will become less numerous later in the day, and some of these storms will again have the possibility of producing 60 mph winds, small hail, locally heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.
