(Fremont County, WY) – An Air Quality Alert has been issued for portions of Fremont County, which is in effect today, October 6, through 1 PM on Monday, according to an update shared by the National Weather Service in Riverton, on behalf of the Wyoming
Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division, and the Wyoming Department of Health.
The Alert is for the Wind River Basin, including Dubois, Riverton, and Lander, as well as northern Johnson County, including Buffalo, and is due to smoke from the Pack Trail Fire near Dubois, and the Elk Fire near Sheridan.
Fire.airnow.gov also shows the Fort Washakie area as having a 198 on the Air Quality Index (AQI).

HEALTH INFORMATION: The Wyoming Department of Health recommends that the elderly, young children, and individuals with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during this time. Wildfire smoke is made up of a variety of pollutants, including particulate matter and ozone, which can cause respiratory health effects. Although these people are most susceptible to health impacts, the Department of Health also advises that everyone should avoid prolonged exposure to poor air quality conditions.
