(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, December 26, a Pacific trough will approach the area and will tighten the pressure gradient once again, resulting in winds increasing after 11 AM this morning.
This means southwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph this afternoon. Southeast Fremont County, including the areas of South Pass to Beaver Rim to Jeffrey City to Moneta, will see gusts of up to 55-60 mph. Highway 28 above Red Canyon on the way to South Pass could even see localized wind gusts of 70-80 mph this afternoon, Lipson added, and we could also see some light rain showers toward sunset.
Mostly cloudy conditions with scattered rain and snow showers are expected tonight, with southwest winds gusting up to 35-40 mph.
Lipson says we could also see an inch of new snow on Beaver Rim tonight. For Togwotee Pass, expect snow to be heavy at times, with new snow accumulations of up to 6-8 inches by the end of today, then another 1-3 inches tonight, and another 1-3 inches on Saturday. South Pass should see 2-4 inches of new snow today and another 2-4 inches tonight.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also reported that highs will be in the lower 50s for most areas today (South Pass at 36 degrees and Dubois at 41 degrees), with lows tonight in the 30s and upper 20s.
