(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, June 11, will be mostly sunny this morning, followed by increasing clouds this afternoon out ahead of an approaching strong trough of low pressure from the west.
Lipson says this trough will increase moisture and instability in our atmospheric environment, resulting in some pretty strong thunderstorms across Fremont County later this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms are expected over central, western, and northern Fremont County, including Riverton and Lander.
A lot of these storms will likely produce small hail, strong gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall, Lipson added, as well as frequent lightning and 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts. At least one of these cells could produce hail over one inch in diameter.
The thunderstorms should end by midnight tonight, followed by just partly cloudy skies.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also advised of flash flooding potential.
High temperatures will be in the 70’s and 80’s today, with lows tonight in the 50’s.
