(Arapahoe, WY) – Pre-K through 12th-grade students assembled outside of Arapahoe Elementary on Friday morning for the annual Unity Walk, which coincides with National Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week.
Led by Arapahoe Charter High School Guidance Counselor Dan Marquart, administrators hold a walk to raise awareness and remind students that they are not alone.
“We’ve all been affected by suicide one way or another,” said Marquart to the group of gathered students. “And if you haven’t been, consider yourself very lucky.”
Elementary school counselor Heather Ley commented on the benefits of hosting the annual walk.
“We make sure we can bring together our campus in unison to remember the people we’ve lost and to support one another and spread good vibes,” said Ley. “The students look forward to it every year… My favorite part is that they’re out here holding hands, intermingling with older and younger kids who don’t normally get to be around each other.”
