UPDATE: The subject has been located, according to an update on the Wyoming Amber/Ashanti Alert Facebook page.
(Riverton, WY) – The Ashanti Alert issued at 12:51 PM for James Knudsen now has additional details, according to the Wyoming Amber/Ashanti Alert Facebook page.
The alert was issued on behalf of Riverton Police Department for 82-year-old Knudsen, the Facebook post states.
Knudsen reportedly drives a silver 2014 Nissan Altima “bearing Wyoming 10-47720.”
“Mr. Knudsen was last seen in Riverton, Wyoming on 5/10/2025 at approximately 5:00 pm,” the post also informs. “Mr. Knudsen is possibly going to Sheridan, Wyoming; may also visit Dubois, Wyoming.”
Folks with information are asked to call 911 or the Riverton Police Department at 307-856-4891.
The Ashanti alert originates from the The Ashanti Alert Act, and is “named in honor of Ashanti Billie, who was abducted and killed in 2017,” according to the National Ashanti Alert Network Fact Sheet.
“Ashanti Alerts provide for rapid dissemination of information to law enforcement agencies, media, and the public about adults who have been reported missing, along with suspect information in cases of suspected abduction.”
While Silver Alerts are often used as a public notification system to broadcast information when the elderly go missing, Wyoming does not use a Silver Alert system, and utilizes the Ashanti alert for older folks.
As Desirée Tinoco clarifies on the Missing People of Wyoming Facebook page: “Wyoming does not have a silver alert instead they use the Ashanti alert. It covers much more than elderly. And it’s for anyone above the age of 17.”
