All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Fremont County, WY) – Shooting suspect Dustin Trosper pled “not guilty” to the three felony Counts filed against him at his arraignment hearing held today, September 26, before the Honorable Judge Teresa McKee in Lander.
Trosper was federally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, following the August 14 shooting in Ethete and ensuing investigation.
According to the charging documents, the shooting resulted in a victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a precautionary lockdown of the nearby Wyoming Indian Schools.
Today’s arraignment also functioned as a detention hearing, and it was ordered that Trosper be detained due in part to the following (according to the Order of Detention on file): prior criminal history, participation in criminal activity while on probation, parole, or supervision, and he is subject to lengthy period of incarceration if convicted.
A jury trial has been set for December 12.
