(Lander, WY) – The KOVE 1330 AM / 107.7 FM Today in the 10 interview series Coffee Time continued this past week with host Vince Tropea, who recently spoke with Karl Brauneis, author of the new book “The Blackwater Fire and the Men Who Fought It: How Firefighters Turned Tragedy Into New Beginnings.”
The book tells the story of the Blackwater Fire from 1937, which occurred about 35 miles west of Cody, WY in the Shoshone National Forest, and came to be known as one of the deadliest fires in our nation’s history.
“Every acre of ground out there has a story,” Brauneis comments in the interview.

It costs less than $20, which Brauneis said is so young firefighters who are broke at the beginning of the fire season can buy the book and “still have (money) left over for a beer!”)
Brauneis, who is an experienced photographer and frequent County 10/Wind River Visitors Council #Snapped contributor, also chats about his time running for Colorado State University, the professors and coaches who inspired him (the former Naval Officer and Advanced Writing professor Miss Trimble sounds like a formidable mentor!), his faith, why he became smokejumper/Wyoming Hotshot firefighter, his writing process/inspiration, and much more.
