(Lander, WY) – Wordplay and puns aside (and trust us, we had more), the Lander Care & Share Food Bank had a messy start to the day on Tuesday, July 2, after that morning’s shipment of eggs took a tumble during the unloading process.
But, as always, the Lander community showed up, and went on to help the Food Bank that helps so many people in Lander.
“The eggs tumbled off of the hydraulic lift on the back of our truck from Food Bank of Wyoming,” Stacey Stebner told County 10. “The lift tipped and dumped the entire pallet into the road, through no fault of the drivers.”
“The eggs met their fate around 9:30am,” Stebner added. “We think at least 1,000 eggs perished in the incident.”
Stebner said they posted about the spill on Facebook, and soon about 20 community minded citizens turned up to help them “clean up, salvage and wash the unbroken eggs.”
“The gutter immediately filled with raw egg and many nearly cooked to the hot pavement and our meager garden hose was no match,” Stener went on to share. “The fire department sent a pumper truck and washed it away and we were back in business about an hour later!”
Stebner went on to give shout outs to: “the fire department for directing traffic and cleaning, our incredible clients and volunteers who were already on site, Angie Flint from Lander Bake Shop, Tim Hudson, Debbie Larsen, David Osborne for hauling our trash to the dump, and Chelsey the driver who stayed to help us clean up.”
“I know we are missing many people so thank you to everyone! Without the support of our community, we’d still be swimming in egg yolk.”
