UPDATE: The Riverton Fire Dept. requests that residents “please give our crews space to operate on the dark,” as crews will be working throughout the night “mopping up hot spots and monitoring the Riverside Dr area.” County 10 will provide more updates on the fire tomorrow.
UPDATE: As of 6:40 PM the fire is contained and in the mop up stage. The fire was an estimated 150 acres. This post will be updated with additional details this evening.
UPDATE: 5:20 PM – Reports indicate the air resources are nearing the area of the fire. Reminder: DO NOT FLY DRONES IN THE AREA TO TAKE PICTURES. As they say, “If you fly, they can’t.”
UPDATE: 4:45 PM – Riverton Fire Chief Jake Blumenshine has shared with County 10 that the fire started on the south side of the river and has moved to the north side. Multiple agencies from Fremont County Fire, BIA Fire, Riverton Fire and others are all on-scene, and four seed planes are currently heading into the area. Chief Blumenshine also stressed that folks need to stay out of any of the affected area, and out of the way of crews, for their safety and that of the responders.
UPDATE: 3:57 PM, Scanner Traffic indicates that residents on Beatrice Road have been evacuated as well.
UPDATE: Around 3:40 PM, scanner traffic indicates that houses in the Red Crow Ave. area have been evacuated. Reports also state that the fire is in danger of “jumping the river,” in the area of Rein Road and Railroad Ave.
At this time there are also reports of a structure that was fully engulfed due to the fire.
(Arapahoe, WY) – A “large” grass fire was reported in the Arapahoe area shortly after 3:00 PM late Wednesday afternoon, October 16. The current size/acreage is unknown at this time.
Multiple agencies have been paged to the fire, which scanner pages indicate is in the area of the 100 block of Little Shield Road in Arapahoe, southwest of Riverton.
Multiple reports have been made about the fire, which can be seen from Riverton, with some folks sharing with County 10 that they could smell the fire smoke from the buildings at the CWC campus before even seeing the smoke, likely due to the high winds in the area.
Further details are limited at this time as crews address the scene, but County 10 will continue to provide updates at the top of this post as they become available.
