UPDATE @ 12:50 pm – The ASOS is back online and operational.
(Riverton, WY) – The Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) has been down at Central Wyoming Regional Airport since Tuesday evening and has canceled all commercial flights, according to an update from Public Works Director Kyle Butterfield.
As of 11:30 am today, the replacement part had arrived and repairs are underway.
“We anticipate having the weather equipment up in the next couple hours,” Butterfield noted.
The ASOS is managed by the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and continually reads and monitors weather conditions at the airport, according to Butterfield. Federal regulations restrict commercial flights from using the airfield without certified weather observations.
