(Fremont County, WY) – Around 9:30 AM Thursday morning, County 10 shared scanner reports of a bus vs. truck collision that occurred on Highway 789, near Hudson.
WRTA Operations Manager Morgan Miller shared with County 10 that the bus driver and the passengers were “a little shaken,” but did not suffer any serious injuries. The condition of the truck driver who collided with the bus is unknown at this time.
Miller went on to state that the Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper said the WRTA driver did “extraordinarily well” in terms of keeping the bus upright after it was struck by the truck. According to Miller, the bus did a “full 180-degree” turn on the road before coming to a rest, and the driver was able to keep the bus “stable and on the road.”
“The troopers commended her and the deputy commended her extraordinarily well for being able to keep it upright and keep everybody safe,” Miller commented.
“First and foremost, we’re grateful everyone is safe and proud of how our operator and team responded,” said WRTA Director Tim Nichols in a release issued this afternoon. “We invest heavily in training because we understand the responsibility we carry every time we’re on the road. Today’s events are a testament to that preparation and dedication.”
Miller also shared that the day’s route will not be delayed, and will continue on as planned with a different bus.
At this time, law enforcement and WYDOT employees have left the area, but Miller remains on-scene with the bus as WRTA waits for the tow truck, and he asks that drivers continue to exercise caution.
Miller could not comment on the exact cause of the crash, as the investigation is still ongoing, but County 10 has reached out to the WHP for additional information, and we will share those details as we obtain them.
