(Fort Wahakie, WY) – The powwow arbor at the Fort Washakie Powwow grounds was recently vandalized, according to a post shared on the Eastern Shoshone Tribe’s Facebook page.
“We regret to inform our community members that our beautiful powwow arbor was recently vandalized with graffiti,” the announcement states.
The arbor, the dedicated location/structure where powwow ceremonies are held and considered sacred ground, was completed last summer. The photos below were shared in June of 2024, when the arbor project was completed.
“We are taking steps to address this issue and have already reported the incident to the appropriate authorities,” the Eastern Shoshone Tribe’s Facebook post states.
“In the meantime, we will be working to remove the graffiti as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Let’s work together to keep our community safe, clean and beautiful.”
