(Fremont County, WY) – USA TODAY has announced the list for their ‘2025 Women of the Year’ recognition, and among those honored is Wyoming’s Lynette St. Clair from the Eastern Shoshone Tribe.
61 women across the country were recognized for “inspiring the next generation,” and “breaking barriers and pushing for change.”
St. Clair was honored for her “work to preserve the Shoshone language and culture through education and advocacy.”
Here is what St. Clair had to say in her USA TODAY profile video.
“My name is Lynette St. Clair. I am Eastern Shoshone and also from the Buffalo Clan. Most of my career has been in service to my community. From working as a school secretary, being a Shoshone language teacher and a school board member, I’m an advocate for youth and community opportunities. Through my consulting work, I continue to educate people about the presence, history, and contemporary contributions of the Shoshone people. It’s important to understand the Indigenous worldview and to see us as multifaceted people. We are leaders, scientists, artists, educators, and much more. I follow in the steps of many others who lead in maintaining our language and traditional ways of knowing. Being present for my tribe and community is what I do. My hope is to continue to amplify the voices of our people and to reclaim our history, language, and presence through authentic representation.”
