(Shoshoni, WY) – The Shoshoni Town Council convened for its regular meeting, Tuesday, June 22nd, at the Shoshoni Town Hall.
Ordinance 12-4 and the FY22 Appropriations were both approved, along with a building permit for Bob Streeter and business license application for the Crossroads RV Park.
After the recently announced County-wide fire ban, firework use on the 4th of July weekend was discussed at length as well.
Even though there are fire restrictions in place, it is up to each municipality to decide what is allowed within town and city limits.
While there were initial reservations from some Council members about allowing fireworks of any kind, it was decided that all non-aerial personal fireworks will be permitted from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, on Sunday the 4th.
Unless decided otherwise, use of personal fireworks of any kind outside of the designated date and times will not be permitted until the fire restrictions are no longer in place.
On the topic of fire, the town burn pile is shut down indefinitely after complaints from citizens and notices from the Department of Environmental Quality.
Kenly Klaproth and Gary Landrum both voiced their displeasure about the smoldering burn pile and the continued smoke at the June 8th, Council meeting, and DEQ received complaints from multiple citizens as well.
According to Mayor Highsmith, there would have been potential fines if they didn’t shut it down as quick as they did. As of right now, there is no clear solution going forward, but other locations and options are being looked into.
