RIVERTON, Wyo. The Wind River Transportation Authority will implement targeted reductions to portions of its Orange and Purple fixed-route schedules beginning Monday, July 13, 2026.
The following scheduled service periods will be discontinued:
- Orange Line: 12:15 p.m. through 2:24 p.m.
- Purple Line: 7:40 a.m. through 10:07 a.m.
The service changes are being implemented in response to reductions in operational funding provided through the Federal Transit Administration’s Section 5311 Rural Area Formula Program.
WRTA is taking these preemptive measures to preserve reliable transportation for the greatest number of passengers possible and to protect the core services most heavily used throughout Fremont County.
“Public transportation funding is far more complicated than many people realize, and service reductions are never just numbers on a spreadsheet,” WRTA Director Tim Nichols said. “They affect real people who depend on us to get to work, medical appointments, school, the grocery store, and other essential destinations. That responsibility weighs heavily on us.”
“Before making decisions like these, we closely examine ridership, operating costs, service demand, and the potential impact on our passengers. These reductions are painful, but they are being made carefully and deliberately to protect the greatest amount of service possible for the greatest number of people.”
WRTA continues to pursue replacement funding and critical local government support. If sufficient funding is not secured before October 1, 2026, further service reductions will be necessary.
