(Lander, WY) – Fremont County Deputy Coroner Erin Ivie provided the 1st Quarter Summary Coroner’s report at the April 12th Fremont County Commissioners’ Meeting.
As of March 31st, there have been a total of 100 recorded deaths for Fremont County, 40 of which were Coroner cases, up 8 from last year.
25 percent of the Coroner cases were “non-natural” in manner, meaning they were accidental, homicide, suicide, or undetermined.
Of these non-natural deaths, 7 were accidental and 3 were suicide.
In total there was an 18 percent decrease in non-natural Coroner case deaths compared to this time last year.
There have been six vehicular traffic deaths so far in 2022.
Drugs and Alcohol
Drug- and alcohol-related deaths in the first quarter accounted for 27 percent of the Coroner cases, down from 38 percent during the same time period in 2021.
Four of the 10 non-natural deaths involved drugs or alcohol – two cases are still pending toxicology or autopsy results.
Zero fentanyl deaths this first quarter. So far, all drug-related deaths are methamphetamine related/caused.
Trends
Total case numbers are slightly higher than this same time last year, however, the percentage of non-natural cases is lower.
Accidental deaths are down, with over half being motor vehicle-related.
Drug- and alcohol-related deaths are also trending downward.
There has been one COVID-19 related/caused death.
