(Fremont County, WY) – Following a recent warning from the Riverton Fire Department and a fire reported in the Juniper Drive area on February 12, the Fremont County Fire Protection District (FCFPD) is now also urging residents to be cautious while conditions remain dry with the recent lack of snowfall or moisture.
In response to today’s reported fire, FCFPD Chief Ron Wempen shared the following release:
“On February 12, Several units from the Fremont County Fire Protection District, including Hudson Fire (Battalion 10), Central Fire (Battalion 1), and Lander Rural Fire (Battalion 3), along with personnel from the City of Lander Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a reported grass fire on Juniper Lane in Lander, now named the Juniper Fire.
“Upon arrival, crews located a wind-driven grass fire burning in light vegetation under EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS. Firefighters deployed hose lines and containment tactics to stop the forward spread of the fire and protect nearby properties. The fire was contained at approximately 2 acres, and crews remained on scene conducting mop-up operations to eliminate hot spots.
“No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Residents are reminded that EXTREMELY DRY CONDITIONS and wind can rapidly spread fire. Please ensure all outdoor burning materials are completely extinguished and never leave fires unattended.”
