(Fremont County, WY) – Yesterday, July 25, County 10 shared reports of three fires that all occurred within about a 4-hour timespan in the Lander, Crowheart, and South Pass Areas.
Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Ron Wempen shared with County 10 that it was indeed a “busy day,” and provided the following details for each fire.
As of about 7 PM yesterday, when Chief Wempen shared the updates, the Baldwin Creek fire still did not have an accurate account of acres, but Chief Wempen said crews were continuing the final mop-up of hot spots. He shared that the fire was caused by farm equipment in a hay meadow, and that Fremont County Lander Rural, Central Battalion 1, Lander City Fire, and the BLM responded.
The fire reported in the Crowheart area reached 2.5 acres, and was caused by a welding grinder. “It consumed several campers and a couple of vehicles,” Chief Wempen reported. Fremont County Crowheart, Pavillion, Morton Kinnear, and Central Battalion 1, along with Dubois Fire District, BLM, and BIA Forestry crews, all responded to the fire.
The third fire, reported in the South Pass area, was .1 acres, the cause of which remains unknown at this time. Fremont County Atlantic City, Lander Rural, and the BLM all responded. Help was also initially requested from the Farson Fire Department.
“I would ask that a plea is put out for folks to be extremely careful with any outdoor activities right now,” Chief Wempen also requested County 10 shared with readers. “These fires grow fast, and firefighters are spread thin. We would love to have more volunteer firefighters!”
