(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 meteorologist Dave Lipson has shared that today, October 3, will see increasing clouds as an upper-level low-pressure center over the California/Nevada border approaches the Rocky Mountains.
Expect widely scattered showers along with a few isolated thunderstorms to develop by late afternoon, but before any showers move into the area, there will be one more day of unseasonably warm temperatures.
Lipson says to expect a prevailing southwest wind to develop by afternoon at speeds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Small hail and wind gusts of 50 miles per hour tonight may accompany the storms as the low-pressure center makes its way east of the Nevada/Utah border. Scattered evening showers will become more numerous after midnight, under partly to mostly cloudy skies, along with southwest winds of 25-35 mph that will veer to the west/northwest, as a strong associated cold front swings across the area.
As for this weekend, Lipson says that on Saturday, the associated trough of low pressure will move into Wyoming, bringing with it numerous showers and a possible lightning strike or two. Expect west winds of 20 to 30 mph with much cooler temperatures. Lipson added that many areas will see up to a half-inch of rain on Saturday, and that the rain will change to snow in the Wind River Mountains Saturday afternoon, with up to 3 to 4 inches of snow expected on Togwotee Pass by Saturday evening, and perhaps up to a possible inch of snow just above South Pass tomorrow by Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service in Riverton also shared that highs will be in the 60s and 70s today, with lows tonight in the lower 50s and 40s.
