If you are looking into the history of your family tree, your local library can help. The Fremont County Library System offers free access to ProQuest’s genealogy resources through the GoWYLD website. The well-known Ancestry databases allow you to search within scores of collections across newspapers and maps, military, court, birth, marriage and death records, and much more. Ancestry’s research aids will guide you through the process and provide many additional research tips and techniques. Ancestry is only accessible from within the library.
ProQuest’s other databases are HeritageQuest and African American Heritage, both of which can be accessed outside of the library with your library card number and PIN. HeritageQuest offers many of the same resources as Ancestry, such as census data, city directories, and cemetery records through Find a Grave indexing. African American Heritage is solely dedicated to African American family history research and offers a topical research guide and similar kinds of records as the other two databases. GoWYLD’s genealogy resources also include guides for obtaining vital records and researching historic buildings.
