(Statewide) – In accordance with U.S. flag code, Governor Mark Gordon has ordered both the United States and the State of Wyoming flags to be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in honor of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away Sunday, December 29.
The flag code states, “The flag shall be flown at half-staff 30 days from the death of the President or a former President.”
Governor Gordon issued the following statement honoring the former President:
“On behalf of the people of Wyoming, I express deep sadness and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of former President Jimmy Carter on his passing. President Carter was a great leader – even more so following his presidency. He leaves an indelible legacy of compassion, integrity, and commitment to serving the country. His humility and dedication to public service as well as his efforts to advance human rights and reduce global poverty, will remain an inspiration to us all. We will forever cherish his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, justice, and equality around the world. Rest in peace, President Carter. Your contributions to our nation and the world will never be forgotten.”
Wyoming Democratic Party Chair Joe Barbuto from Rock Springs also released the following statement yesterday in honor of former President Carter.
“Today, we mourn the loss of President Jimmy Carter, a leader whose legacy will be remembered not only for his political achievements but for his unwavering commitment to humanity, peace, and service.President Carter’s tenure in the White House exemplified integrity, compassion, and a steadfast dedication to the American people. From championing human rights and environmental conservation to advancing peace through the Camp David Accords, his leadership demonstrated a rare blend of principle and pragmatism.”
“After leaving office, President Carter’s humanitarian work through the Carter Center changed countless lives around the world. His efforts to eradicate disease, promote democracy, and alleviate poverty showcased his belief that public service does not end with elected office.Above all, President Carter embodied the values of humility, empathy, and an enduring faith in the potential of people to create a better world.
