(Butler, PA) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump was rushed off stage with blood on his ear and face after a reported shooting during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, held today, July 13.
In footage of the rally, Trump can be seen clutching his ear in the middle of a sentence during his address after a series of ‘pops’ were heard in the distance, at which point he went down to the ground while U.S. Secret Service and security team members rushed to his cover.
According to the press release issued by the U.S. Secret Service below, the suspected shooter is deceased, while one spectator was killed, and two were injured. Former President Trump is currently safe and has since been medically evaluated.
In response to the shooting, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and Wyoming Senators John Barrasso and Cynthia Lummis shared the following statements.
“President Trump, his family and the families of the victims of today’s shooting are in our prayers. We are thankful for the professional and quick response of the Secret Service. This is truly a sad day for our Republic, and should serve as a wake-up call for all Americans to express disagreement without resorting to violence.” – Governor Gordon
“Today, the nation witnessed a horrifying assassination attempt on President Trump. America is grateful for the quick action of the Secret Service and local law enforcement. I’m praying for the victims and their families. Donald Trump is a warrior and will not be intimidated by this cowardly attack.” – Senator Barrasso
“I am horrified by the attempted assassination that took place at today’s Trump rally. I am relieved President Trump’s injuries are minor, but my heart breaks for the person who was killed and those who were injured. I am eternally grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement who acted quickly to neutralize the suspect and prevent greater tragedy. Political violence has no place in this country.” – Senator Lummis
President Joe Biden also condemned the attack, calling the incident “sick,” and stating that “we cannot condone this.”
At this time, the identity of the shooter has not been made officially public.
