Fremont County Fire District Chief Craig Haslam shares, “mechanical failure on a vehicle” is the possible cause of three separate fires approximately 1/4-1/2 mile apart on Highway 789 on Wednesday afternoon around 4:50 pm.
The section of Highway 789 between South Rendezvous Road and Hudson closed at approximately 5:30 pm for firefighter safety while they worked to extinguish the flames. One lane of traffic opened back up around 6:00 pm.
Haslam notes no structures were lost in the fires. Several local fire battalions responded along with the Forest Service.
Fremont County Fire District wants to remind people it is drying up and to exercise caution when using anything that can start a fire.
