(Riverton, WY) – According to the most recent Riverton Police Department call log, the RPD received reports of a moose sighting in a yard in the Westview Drive area on June 9, and that it was heading toward Southridge Drive at that time. Dispatch was then informed that the moose had been seen heading toward E Main Street on S 6th Street, and was later seen at a business on E Main Street.
The call log narrative states that the moose “eventually ran eastbound into the intersection of South Federal Blvd. and East Jefferson Street,” where it struck “the driver’s side of a northbound 2026 Subaru Forester,” which was later determined to have sustained $2,500 in damage.
The log entry states that the moose ultimately “continued on its way” and could not be located.
County 10 reached out to Wyoming Game and Fish representatives, who confirmed that the moose is still at large, and that at one point it had to be coaxed out of the Wyoming Central Canal.
“Wyoming Game and Fish Department received a report that a moose was stuck in the Wyoming Central Canal,” Wyoming Game and Fish Information and Education Supervisor Rene Schell shared. “Local wardens and biologists worked to persuade the moose down the canal until it was able to climb out on its own. It then decided to run across town and was struck by a vehicle. Game and Fish and Riverton PD searched the area where it was last seen after being struck and were unable to locate it.”
Game and Fish received another report later that evening of a moose “walking out of town in that same area,” Schell added, but it was still unable to be located.
